How Watching TV Can Turn into an AddictionPsychological or physical dependence on something with compulsion is considered addiction, especially with the inability to overcome this dependence in spite of continuous and repetitive efforts.

Addiction can be toward many things that people can’t resist, including drugs, alcohol, sex, smoking and TV, especially when this dependence affects your functioning, well-being and productive life.  

Repetitive trials to quit smoking or drug addiction are similar in people who spend most of their time in front of the TV and try not to. After researchers studied the brainwaves of people trying to quit TV addiction, they found that watching TV brings absolute happiness to those people which ceases after the show is over to be back in to stress. This is quite similar to drug addiction, making people suffer seeking their dose and get relief while the drug circulates in their veins.

The problem with TV addiction is more related to social withdrawal and psychological disorders. It increases the risk of obesity, depression and developmental abnormalities in children. It also interferes with learning ability and performing school duties. Studies have shown that children who spend most of their time in front of the TV feel helpless early when the face any troubles. It is becoming a major issue for parents trying to wean their children from watching TV shows and cartoons.

As with other types of addiction, there are some advice to help get over the compulsive situation trying to quit. The first advice is to socialize. People can fight alcoholism and psychiatric illness with company and group therapy. The best advice is to socialize and keep with company. Volunteering in social activities or meetings will help forget about TV addiction and related anxiety. You can also replace watching TV with other activities like reading or listening to music, playing games and sports activities. Some people go far with giving away all extra TVs in the house to keep only one in the living room for minimal use only. Watch TV for limited times and follow specific shows only.  

Another effective way is  to have food without watching TV. This is important since it helps with TV addiction and also with overeating. Training is always progressive and needs time but eventually you can beat your bad habits especially if you try to replace them with reading or playing sports whenever you think about watching TV.
