Many people seem not to fully understand what sex addiction is, or do not believe that it is a real problem

Are you one of those who do not believe that there such a thing as sex addiction? Then you probably have not known yet that research indicates a clear prevalence of adverse sexual behavior very similar to a “chemical” addiction. But imagine being addicted to pornography, prostitution, masturbation or fantasy, sadistic or masochistic behavior, exhibition / voyeurism and other excessive sexual pursuits. There certainly are negative effects of being addicted to sex.

We invite you to take our test – and determine whether or not you’ve got an issue. If you do, read on, and consider contacting us to guide you through steering your life back to normal.

Sex addicts easily enter relationships with people they do not quite know, and that is unhealthy. Such relationships easily crash, and we all know the amount of depression can accompanies a breakup. Sex addicts will stay in a relationship even if it is detrimental to them, or they will easily jump from one relationship to another. All of these is because fear they could get abandoned. Their addiction makes them unappealing, so they will either stick to the one person who accepts them despite their addiction, or engage in multiple sexual relationships.

Imagine that your spouse is a known sex addict; you sure will not be very comfortable with that. Typically, you will feel alienated, isolated, depressed, angry, and / or humiliated. You may even need to go for medical checkups regularly to be sure that you do not pick a sexually transmitted disease from your spouse.

If until this moment you still thought sex addiction is not quite a serious problem, consider these:

  • According to the USDA, about 38 percent of men and 45 percent of women with sex addictions have a venereal disease as a result of their behavior.
  • Unwanted pregnancies are common with sex addicts. In a study carried out this subject, about 70 percent of women with sex addictions reported they had been pregnant against their wish at least once as a result of their addiction.

Other major issues sex addicts deal with regularly are; a drop in concentration and eventually productivity at work, as well as physical issues like sexual dysfunction.  As already mentioned, sexual addicts could be vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Sometimes, psychological consequences set in; shame, insufficiency, and distress. All of these can lead to anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

Did you know an addiction can also be caused by a mental disorder?

One of the primary reasons that mental disorders and substance abuse so often go hand-in-hand is that drugs and alcohol can provide an escape from the pressures of mental health problems. Self-medicating is surprisingly common: you’re not alone.

But unlike real, effective, long-term solutions, such as medication and detoxification in a treatment center, drugs and alcohol won’t amount to effective treatment.
