There is no one-size-fits-all approach for drug addiction

Every addict responds differently to treatment. This is the reason why new treatments are being studied, approved and introduced all the time. One of the latest is the Neuro-Stim System Bridge or the NSS-2 Bridge to help treat opioid addiction.

What It Does

The NSS-2 Bridge is a small device which is simple and straightforward to use. You attach it to your skin right behind your ear. A chip inside creates electrical pulses, which stimulate specific nerves in the brain. These nerves have the task of process information about pain.

This device isn’t new for use with pain management. It was developed to help with chronic pain as well as acute distress. The NSS-2 Bridge has been approved by the FDA for use in treatment programs for opioid addiction.

Treatment with the NSS-2 Bridge

This device is available only by prescription. It’s also an expensive option with prior use costing as much as $800 each. A clinical study was done with 73 patients who experienced physical withdrawal of opioid drugs. Out of the 73, 64 were able to stop using opioids within five days of using the device.

The purpose of the device is to reduce the withdrawal symptoms of opioid addiction. Many addicts relapse because they cannot tolerate the symptoms of not using, which are often severe and uncomfortable.

Some of the symptoms a person might experience include:

  • Nausea
  • Cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Sweating or chills
  • Muscle aches
  • Insomnia
  • Runny nose
  • Shaking
  • Strong cravings
  • Anxiety

Withdrawal can be a long process, especially for those who have been using for a long time. It’s important for detoxification to be monitored to prevent severe or even dangerous withdrawal.

If you or a loved one want to stop using opioids, you need to contact a treatment center which can provide several options to help you avoid or reduce withdrawal.
