Following the developments of former American Football quarterback and Heisman trophy winner, Johnathan Paul Manziel’s criminal case; his father Paul Manziel, has nothing but sad sentiments regarding his, somewhat, pessimistic concern for his son.

With a very bleak chance of coming back into the NFL, Johnny Manziel has been living miserably off-field and his life has become a publicity circus especially after a recent debacle where his lawyer Bob Hinton, mistakenly sent a lengthy text message to Associated Press bearing confidential information about Manziel’s case. The text was supposed to relay information that appeared to be a precursor to a plea bargain in Manziel’s domestic violence case in Texas to another lawyer.

According to Manziel’s spokeswoman, the attorney has withdrawn from representing him after the text mixup. The incident however does not change anything in the case and that Manziel still stands firmly that he will not plead guilty.

In all of this, Johnny’s father has nothing but miserable and depraved feelings about his son’s future.

In a recent interview between Paul Manziel and ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the down trodden fathers’ words have startled everybody. When talking about his son, he was blunt when he said “He’s a druggie” during the course of the interview. He further talked about his son saying, “It’s not a secret that he’s a druggie and needs help. He just hasn’t seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn’t die before he comes to his senses. That’s about all you can say. I don’t know that else to say. I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, that would be the best place for him. So we’ll see.”

Earlier this year, Paul Manziel has said that his son could die without help. It can be recalled that he told The Dallas Morning News how he is very much afraid about the future of his son saying “I truly believe if they can’t get him help, he won’t live to see his 24th birthday.” This was during the time when the quarterback refused to enter rehab facilities and his father believed that he had suicidal tendencies.

Paul Manziel had tried to have his son admitted into a number of rehab facilities but Johnny was actively against it.

Paul Manziel had tried to have his son admitted into a number of rehab facilities but Johnny was actively against it. In one of the father’s efforts –when he tried to get his son admitted into Carrolton Springs Hospital, Paul was upset because his son was allowed to leave the facility after he told a Denton County Sheriff officer that he believed Johnny to be suicidal. However, a public information officer has denied the occurrence stating that there are no records of Manziel coming into contact with an officer.

According to a Jan. 29 incident, Manziel’s ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, said that Manziel acted like he was high on drugs but not intoxicated according to a police report. WFAA-TV(Channel 8) reported, citing unnamed sources, that Manziel also allegedly dragged his ex-girlfriend by her hair and forced her into a car and told her to “shut up or I’ll kill us both.”

The football player’s situation has grown from bad to worse, but family, friends and teammates have invested efforts in trying to intervene and get Johnny professional help, however, right now, it’s not looking promising and it feels like they have virtually exhausted all possible ways to help the embattled quarterback. It seems that no one knows how he can get help or how it will end, it’s pretty clear nothing is working yet.

During Paul Manziel’s interview with ESPN just a few days ago, it seems like he has loosed hope in his son, despite all the efforts that the people close to Johnny has given.

“He has more money than me, so he can outrun me. Like I said, there are two things that are going to happen: He’s either going to die or he’s going to figure out that he needs help. It’s one of the two. But we’ve don’t everything we can do. Life goes on. You can’t just chase somebody that’s not willing to listen. The story is not going to change. It’s the same”

He said that he has grown tired of talking about his son’s situation.

“I’m done. I’m done talking about it. I’m doing my job, and I’m going to move on. If I have to bury him, I’ll bury him. That’s the fact. So if not, if he calls me and needs help, I’ll go get him. Until then, he’s on his own. I’ve done everything I can do. There is nothing else I can do as a father. Nothing. … It is what it is. He’s a druggie, and everybody needs to accept it.”

“I mean, I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, That would be the best place for him.”

New reports have surfaced stating that Rolando McCain, another promising football player, was also suspended for 10 games for substance abuse.
