RR SCHIZOPHRENIA 2016

Have you ever heard the word schizophrenia?

Do you know what it is all about? You probably don’t. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes it difficult for a person to distinguish between what is real and what is not real.

It is a chronic disorder that makes its sufferer hallucinate and unable to think correctly.

Causes of schizophrenia

Several factors could lead to schizophrenia. Usually, it could be a mixture of genetics, the chemistry and structure of an individual’s brain and the environment the sufferer finds himself or herself in. The condition runs in families, so it can possibly be inherited. Also, child abuse, traumatic occurrences in childhood, severe stress, failures in life and other negative factors have been linked to the onset of schizophrenia.

Symptoms of schizophrenia

Several factors can lead you to suspect schizophrenia. Hallucinating is one of them. It is a situation where people see, smell, hear and feel something that doesn’t quite exist. Sometimes sufferers could lack feelings of emotion and lose interest in basic but important things of life, like personal hygiene.

More evident cases include the patient not being able to make sense when he or she speaks, not being able to remember things and not being able to make simple decisions on his or her own.

Schizophrenia could be deadly. Actually, about a third of all sufferers are known to have attempted suicide.

The good news though, is that the condition is treatable with both medication and therapy. It is therefore absolutely necessary to detect the condition early in a patient. If this happens he or she can start an effective treatment plan early before the condition worsens. Early treatments are usually more effective.

Did you know an addiction can be caused by a mental disorder?

One of the primary reasons that mental disorders and substance abuse so often go hand-in-hand is that drugs and alcohol can provide an escape from the pressures of mental health problems. Self-medicating is surprisingly common: you’re not alone.

But unlike real, effective, long-term solutions, such as medication and detoxification in a treatment center, drugs and alcohol won’t amount to effective treatment.

If you suspect that your loved one is suffering from addiction, then take our free 3 minute assessment.
